The Text of Units.
Ideas come to me slowly and piecemeal. This one was no different. When I visit clients and Centres I frequently get asked for the text of NVQ/SVQ qualifications and Units. I could, of course, carry them around on my laptop, but slowly began to realise that it would be better to post them on my website so that clients and Centres could download them on the spot.
The Units on this Website are available in three formats: .doc, .pdf and .html. And here they are, well, most of them anyway, beginning with our more popular qualifications, such as those for Managers, Assessors, Verifiers and Trainers. Why all three formats for these Units? And why is the HTML format the one to which these pages are linked?
PDF. (Portable Document Format). This is the format in which these Units are published on websites by Standard Setting and Awarding Bodies. It is the format to go for when you wish to see the original complete Unit just like it was published. PDFs can be read by Adobe Acrobat Reader which comes free on almost all computers.
.DOC. These are Microsoft WORD files and can be ready by most word-processing software. They are easy to adapt and edit to meet a particular candidate or Centre's specific requirements and can also be imported into desktop publishing applications. Ideal as Unit building blocks for making NVQ/SVQ workbooks, manuals, etc.
HTML or HTM (Hypetext Markup Language) The language in which Internet etc. pages are usually written. The HTML versions of Units are the starting point for persons such as myself who may wish to produce interactive assessment documentation such as Electronic Portfolios, etc.
And of course, we also plan to publish all the Units for Advice and Guidance, Business and Administration, Customer Service, etc. on this website as soon as we can find the time. This, surely, is the "Royal "We" !
